***THANKS: A big thank you to all the members of the iPhone Dev-Team for all their hard work! It is much appreciated by all.
The iPhone Dev-Team (no relation) have been teasing us for a little bit now with what they’ve been saying is an iPhone OS 3.0-compatible version of yellowsn0w, and tonight in a video presentation they unveiled ultrasn0w, which should let you unlock any iPhone on the market, running any version of the firmware from 3.0 on down. The trick to how they’re getting the jailbreak hasn’t been revealed yet for fear of Apple making a fix at the eleventh hour, but if everything goes according to plan, the new hacking software should be out Friday in time for the iPhone 3G S (no guarantee it’ll work on the new device). Hit up the read link to watch the magic happen right before your very own eyes.
These are instructions on how to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 2G on the 3.0 iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. Before beginning make sure you have updated to iTunes 8.2.

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
7. PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

Currently only the first iPod touch is supported at this time…
We will be posting a tutorial on how to use this tool very shortly. Please stay tuned!

Rapid Repair has done a teardown of the new iPhone revealing a Samsung chipset and the capability to record 720p video.
The chipset has been identified as the SoC S5PC100 from Samsung meaning an ARM Cortex A8 which runs at 600 MHz (can operate at up to 833MHz). Also discovered was the PowerVR SGX for graphics and 256MB of RAM.
According to Engadget these features give the iPhone 3G S the ability to record 720p video and handle real-time video conferencing should Apple choose to go in that direction.
